Great Basin Wildrye

60-72” tall x 18-24” wide. Leymus cinereus (Great Basin Wildrye) is a fabulous native grass grown for its large size, attractive tall flower spikes and eye-catching blue foliage. Native to the Great Basin area, centered in Utah and Nevada, this little-known beauty deserves much wider use. A cool season grower, its blue leaves sprout up early in the spring and blooms starting in late spring. High Country Garden plants are grown from select plants chosen for their extra blue leaves and sturdy upright growth habit. Plant it alongside or behind native shrubs like Fernbush (or Desert Sweet, Chamaebatiaria), and perennials like tall Penstemon and ‘Coronation Gold’ Yarrow.
